Comment Post #292703 I guess the question title imprinted itself in me. Perhaps better off just rephrasing to "sort file system contents by size".

Comment Post #292703 Stuff that takes up a lot of space, usually doesn't come packaged in a single file. It may be a single directory with subfolders and files, or it may be different directories spread around the file system. If you're looking to free up space, simply hunting for the single largest files, isn't so effec...

Comment Post #291571 This isn't the problem in full, because OpenRGB doesn't start by itself at all, after bootup or hibernation. After hibernation, OpenRGB continues running in the userspace, with the window open, but it doesn't start the profile again, which was reset because the computer turned off in the meantime. G...

Comment Post #292598 Maybe you're better off just using another headless browser? If it has to be Chromium, does a Python script with Selenium suffice (I don't have one to answer with)?

Comment Post #292085 > That's weird. And you get decent FPS in games and so on? Indeed. Minecraft, Battlefront II, RDR2, etc, great framerate. Apex, a bit unstable, but that's just AL being AL. Jedi: Fallen Order, sure, except for when UE4's outdated threading solutions say no. Jedi: Survivor, heck no, 2K FSR to 4K at...

Comment Post #292280 In that case, the question needs a rather heavy rewrite in the form of «how is code size measured?»

Comment Post #292289 Depends on what you need for a specific purpose. When looking at Q/A online to figure something out, or if you need to post a question about it, knowing which DE you're using might be necessary, while the window manager is unnecessary.

Comment Post #292296 Well, it's the ID of the disk, used by software, I assume. But how is that relevant to me as a user, and what differences do the options have? Why have a specific mounting option directory the user can choose, when the disk already seems to be mounted in `/dev`, and a symlink can be made? Besides,...

Comment Post #292296 I'm not sure what "Identify As" is used for, and what sets the options apart. Each option is labelled with a description, but I don't know what to get out of that.

Comment Post #292296 How come the boot disk is visible as a _disk_ in the file manager, but the secondary disk won't be anymore? Is there a way I can continue listing it as a disk in the file manager, in the same location as before making these changes, but in a way that removes the unmounting button and context menu ac...

Comment Post #292296 In case I choose not to specify a mount point, what happens then? Is the disk mounted in some directory somewhere within system directories, and I have to track that down every time I log in, and the name of the mounted directory may change between each boot? That said, the mount point input box i...

Comment Post #292299 > It may be nice to have a "Not sure where to post?" article linked at the top of each community. Maybe that article should be linked on the dashboard instead? Question Secondary internal disk is mounted as an external disk
I just installed an SSD into my motherboard's third M.2 slot. After I booted up the computer, the secondary disk is now displayed like an externally connected one. There's an icon for it on the desktop, in the dock, and I can unmount it wherever I find the icon. If I drag files and folders between th...

Comment Post #292289 I obviously know this answer for myself. I'm running Gnome. However, I do think this may be a question that a beginner possibly has, so there may be value in a Q/A about it. If you disagree in its usefulness, please just downvote it, and I'll consider deleting it.

Question What desktop environment am I running?
I'm a complete beginner, and just installed Linux for the first time. I chose a popular distribution, but I've run into some issues, or have a few questions. However, I don't know if I have Gnome, Xfce, Cinnamon, Cosmic, or another desktop environment. How do I figure that out?

Comment Post #292280 It was noted in chat that "accuracy" isn't really descriptive, and I agree with that. "Accurately" doesn't really mean anything unless in a context where something can be counted more than once, or something can be missed. Counting tokens instead of lines isn't more accurate, it is something entirely...

Comment Post #292085 @#61308 We're way outside the scope of Q/A here, but in case you're interested, I've solved the problem by pretty much just flipping a radio button that's been sitting in front of me for a month. Question Fix broken EGL installation
According to a post on the Nvidia forums, my EGL installation is broken, as `eglinfo` should say the vendor is Nvidia; on my system it returns: ``` EGL API version: 1.5 EGL vendor string: Mesa Project EGL version string: 1.5 EGL client APIs: OpenGL OpenGLES ``` I do have an Nvidia GPU with ...

Comment Post #292085 I see `eglinfo` is printing: ``` EGL API version: 1.5 EGL vendor string: Mesa Project EGL version string: 1.5 EGL client APIs: OpenGL OpenGL_ES ``` Shouldn't that be Nvidia instead? Maybe that is why I'm having problems?

Comment Post #292085 I built the computer with all fresh new components off the assembly shelves, back in May. Worked fine until sometime at the end of June/July. Comment Post #292085 > As I recall though, the freezing only happened with Bottles for me, not when using Wine directly (don't remember about bottles with syswine). Comment Post #292085 Yeah, it's a helpful answer that explains things. Comment Post #292085 > You will still be using the kernel and device drivers of the host OS. What do you mean by "host OS" in this case? Is it the OS on the USB stick (the one currently running), or the OS on the disk, where the programs reside?

Comment Post #291925 Do you not need support in the file system itself? If I remember correctly, this was one of the things APFS (Apple file system) was designed in mind with. It stores this information, changing it when the file system is mutated, such that you can instantly read it.

Comment Post #291999 I’m no expert at this utility, but it sounds like a bug if the purpose is that the user can permanently set a background image. Answer A: Check which version of Debian a distribution is based on
If you are on Debian itself, you can simply check with `lsbrelease -a` or one of the other methods of checking the OS version. If you are not on Debian, this will simply list the version of your distribution, not the Debian version it's based on. All Debian based distributions do however store the...
