Q&A

Why are most distros so laggy on my Intel+NVIDIA laptop?

Greetings, kernel comrades! Ready to fork this conversation?

I've been distro hopping for years now. I love Fedora and Tumbleweed, but everything I've tried beyond Ubuntu is slow and jumpy, and even Ubuntu lags behind Windows 7, 10, and 11. Are the NVIDIA drivers really this big a problem?

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7300HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz 24 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 1050 Ti

Are you using the proprietary nvidia driver or the nouveau driver? Nvidia has always been a little difficult on linux, but so has AMD. That's because these companies see a lot of information required to write drivers as their intellectual property and won't disclose it.

What exactly you need the nvidia card for?
