Low impact trial installation of Guix to test hardware compatibility
I like how Guix sounds based on what I've read, and I want to try it. However, my partitioning scheme is a bit complicated. With Guix it appears like my biggest concern is hardware (I will regrettably need the non-free drivers). So I don't want to resize and move my partitions around, install Guix, only to realize that I can't get it to work with my hardware and have to undo all the partition changes.
Normally, it's easy to test an OS in a VM or chroot. However, unless I am mistaken, both of those will hide hardware issues. The VM will only tell me if Guix is compatible with the VM's virtual hardware, not my physical devices. With a chroot I believe it would also rely on the host's kernel (which already has the right non-free drivers installed).
Is there a good way to try out Guix realistically (ie. with drivers for my actual hardware) without impacting my current partitions?
