A question like this on its face seems more appropriate to Power Users, as it seems like most of any answer will boil down to choosing software to perform the task. Asking it here suggests that you are specifically interested in Linux-compatible software, but I think the question is better asked in a generic way, so that other OS users can get answers that work for them. (And so that any cross-platform answers aren't mistakenly treated as Linux-specific.)

I opted to ask here simply because Linux was the only OS I cared to know the answer for. Certainly the question would make sense for other OS:ses too, but generic questions are just more noisy. So, I'd vouch for crossposting.
